British police searching for two missing 10-year-old girls today said they were investigating a possible new sighting.
Ms Holly Wells and Ms Jessica Chapman were last seen walking on a main road near their homes in Soham, Cambridgeshire, England, at about 6.30 p.m. on Sunday.
Police said a person had now reported seeing two girls walking on the A10 between Ely and Cambridge either late on Sunday or in the early hours of Monday.
The area where the sighting was made is about 10 miles by road south east of Soham.
Police search teams were scouring verges along the sides of the A10 from early today but the spokesman said they had not yet found clues that would confirm or deny the possible sighting. The spokesman said officers were also searching fields and hedgerows around Soham.
Police were today also examining two computers, one seized from each of the girls' houses.
Police are trying to establish whether they could have been going to meet someone they had contacted through e-mail. "We have seized the two computers and we are examining them," said the spokesman. "But nothing sinister should be read into that".
Police said they were also checking records relating to Jessica's mobile phone, which she had on her when she vanished.
