The National Lottery in Britain has created a record 28 millionaires in nine days, its organisers, Camelot, said yesterday. The winners scooped the cash in five draws between December 24th and January 2nd.
In the Republic there was no winner of the £1.6 million jackpot in the first Lotto of the new century. The numbers were 18, 21, 30, 24, 6 and 28 (bonus 25). Next Wednesday's jackpot will be over £2 million.
The numbers drawn in the UK lottery were 2, 5, 14, 23, 27 and 48 (bonus 38).
In Britain the special Big Draw 2000, held just before and after midnight at the turn of the century, created 19 millionaires. Three players shared the jackpot in a game where players chose six years from 1900 to 1999, while in another game there were 16 £1 million winners. On Christmas Eve three ticket holders won £4.3 million each, and one winner picked up £4.2 million on December 29th.
Last night five ticket holders scooped £1,170,389 each to bring the total number of millennium millionaires to 28.
They matched numbers 2, 5, 14, 23, 27, and 48 to share the £5,851,945 jackpot. The bonus ball was 38.
