Muslims attending a Belfast mosque were clearing up today after their building was attacked.

Three bricks were thrown at the mosque in Wellington Park in the south of the city, smashing two windows. No one was injured.

The incident was condemned by Sinn Féin MLA Mr Alex Maskey amid speculation that Tuesday's attacks in New York and Washington were used as an excuse to attack the mosque.

"An attack on any place of worship is completely reprehensible - no less so the mosque which was attacked this morning," he said.

"Those who carried out this attack should desist immediately. Intolerance and racism can have no place in our society".
