Breton, Body & Soul:
Responsible for one of 2012’s most intriguing debut albums, south London band Breton operate in that Venn diagram between indie rock and electronica.
What’s interesting about their maths is that neither one nor the other completely dominates or over-eggs the pudding.
Theirs was a set full of exciting twists and turns. There are debts to various art-rock pioneers, but it¹s how the band have unpacked various dubstep and electronica influences and brought them into the mix which give songs like Jostle, Governing Correctly and Interference their edge.
Such accidental pop songs are supple and nimble enough to set off plenty of sparks here.
A set to good that we¹ll even overlook frontman Roman Rappak’s geographical faux-pas when he placed the Electic Picnic in the capital rather than in the queen’s county.
