Out of contract Republic of Ireland defender Gary Breen has held talks with Everton over a possible move to Goodison Park.
Everton manager David Moyes has confirmed that he met the 28-year old in the past week to discuss a switch to the Premiership.
Breen, who has been linked with both Barcelona and Inter since his eye-catching performances during the World Cup, is believed to be currently weighing up his options.
Breen is available on a free transfer as his contract at Coventry City expired at the end of last season and he is known to be desperate for a return to the top flight after spending last term in the First Division.
"I can say we’ve had talks with Gary Breen since he’s come back with the Republic team," Moyes announced.
"He’s available on a Bosman, which makes him a good target for us, because he is a decent player and one that’s available for no cost, so that’s a possibility also.
"But we have been in talks with several players and have made enquiries for more than ten players to see if they are available, if the prices would be suitable for us to pay."
