THE Minister for Education has told the Dail she was aware of an investigation into incorrect marking in last year's Leaving Cert art exam, which was carried out by her Department before Christmas, writes Paul Cullen, Education Correspondent.
However, Ms Breathnach said yesterday in a written Dail answer that she would not have expected to be informed of the "detailed activities" in the investigation, nor was she. It followed complaints from the Ursuline school in Sligo about the marks awarded to its students in the art exam.
The inquiry tried to establish that all art candidates had received credit for all exam components.
As a result, 48 students in 30 schools received upgrades after it was hound they had not been credited for craft work submitted as part of the exam. She said a further error, arising from incorrect processing of an appeal, had been uncovered.
