A 15-year-old schoolboy, who suffered a severe allergic reaction to a hair dye procedure, had a €12,500 settlement approved by the Circuit Civil Court yesterday.
Conor E Byrne, counsel for the boy, said he had gone to Peter Mark, St Stephen’s Green, Dublin, in October 2009 to have highlights removed. The boy, now aged 17, had wanted to return some highlighting to its natural colour and during the process had suffered a severe reaction, resulting in temporary hair loss.
Mr Byrne told Mr Justice Matthew Deery the boy’s scalp had come out in spots, ulcers, swelling and severe irritation down to his forehead and into his eye area. Among a number of treatments, he had to take steroid tablets for a week.
Mr Byrne said the reaction had been short lived and Peter Mark had offered the boy a settlement of €12,500 together with expenses and special damages of €1,915 and the costs of his claim.
