AFTER a few months of silence, siblings look like making quite a lot of noise over the next few weeks. Last year, the three Rahman brothers - whose parents Abdur and Aleya Rahman own the Al Minar Tandoori restaurant in Dalkey - threw two of the very best parties in the capital.
The first of these was ostensibly to mark TCD computer student Mianow Rahman's 21st birthday and then a couple of months later - deciding they didn't actually need a celebratory excuse for inviting their friends - the brothers arranged a leather and PVC fancy dress bash in the Chocolate Bar.
Now 23 year old Shahin Rahman, who's planning to finish his deferred biochemistry degree next year, is organising another couple of parties in the same location. While there are plans afoot fur a Sony PlayStation night later this spring, for openers he's putting the finishing touches on Sunday, February 25th, which he promises will be even better than any of its predecessors.
Called "Priscilla, Queen of the Pod", the Sunday night's theme will be based around 1994's Australian drag film, thereby giving revellers an idea of how they're expected to dress for the occasion. For anyone in need of assistance (or even a gown), Mr Rahman says that NCAD fashion student Danny Kearns will be happy to oblige over the next few weeks.
Two days before this party, there'll be a chance to see the other Rahman brothers, Michael and Minnow, in their latest incarnation - as part of Ireland's latest boy band. Called Only Us, the winsome foursome also features Brendan Scully and Mark Walton; they'll all be making their official debut in Tallaght's National Basketball Arena on February 23rd. The group is managed jointly by choreographer Julian Benton and Mark Dunne. Given that the latter is son of Ben Dunne, presumably Only Us will be offering better value than most of its competitors in the market.
