A five-year-old has died in a swimming pool at a hotel in Co Kerry.
Attempts were made to resuscitate the boy after he was discovered in the pool at the Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney at about 11.30am.
He was transferred to Tralee general hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A spokeswoman for the Gleneagle said staff at the hotel were "deeply saddened" by today's events and that their thoughts were with the family.
The spokeswoman said the swimming pool was fully supervised at the time of the accident with two qualified lifeguards in attendance. She said all the appropriate steps had been taken and all the relevant authorities have been notified.
It is understood the family are from north Dublin.
The pool will remain closed today as a mark of respect for the family and is expected to re-open tomorrow.
