A 14-year-old football fan, caught shoplifting both Roy Keane and Mick McCarthy's autobiographies at the same time, has been remanded on bail pending a probation and welfare service report.
The Dublin Children's Court was told that the boy was stopped for shoplifting by security staff as he was leaving Eason's book store, in the Square Shopping Centre, Tallaght, on October 21st last.
When gardaí arrived they found that the teenager had taken former Ireland soccer skipper Roy Keane's autobiography and also that of former team manager Mick McCarthy.
He was charged with larceny of the books worth €49, Judge Mary Collins was told.
The teenager told Judge Collins that he was a soccer fan and intended to read the books himself. She also heard that the boy had no previous convictions and had not come to any further garda attention.
Judge Collins remanded the boy on bail until a date in April for the furnishing of the probation report.
