According to reports in today's Mirrornewspaper, Leeds United are launching a full investigation into allegations that midfielder Lee Bowyer assaulted a special constable while on holiday in Cyprus in 1999.

The allegations were made by Nick Taylor, who claimed that he was punched to the ground and kicked in the face by the drunken footballer before bar staff and two other holidaymakers restrained Bowyer.

Taylor wrote to Leeds manager David O'Leary when he returned to Britain after his holiday, but, apart from a promise by O’Leary to respond to the allegations after speaking with Bowyer, Taylor has heard nothing from the Yorkshire club.

Last night a spokesperson for Leeds United said that the club has launched a full investigation into the incident.
