Cape Town - Mr P.W. Botha won his appeal yesterday against a conviction of contempt handed down last year for his refusal to testify before South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
An official at the Cape Town High Court said Judge Selwyn Selikowitz had upheld Mr Botha's appeal on technical grounds and set aside his sentence of a 10,000 rand (€1,540) fine or 12 months in jail for defying a truth commission subpoena.
