There was a packed turnout in Brussels recently for the continental launch of Bobby McDonagh's Original Sin in a Brave New World on the Amsterdam Treaty negotiations. The man from the Department of Foreign Affairs has many friends in his old home, Euroland. The star turn was the president of the Commission, Jacques Santer, who paid generous tribute to the book. And there was also the secretary general of the Commission, Carlo Trojan, rechristened by McDonagh, "Carl O'Trojan", because of the latter's fondness for Ireland. The author reminded his audience that O'Trojan's real claim to fame is his honorary membership of the Cavan Beekeepers' Association.
