A significant step towards addressing the needs of women in Wexford who experience violence will be taken on Friday with the launch of a booklet detailing the services available to them.

Enough is Enough is published by the Wexford Local Network on Violence Against Women, which has been working for the past two years to improve services for women who are victims of violence.

The booklet, says the network's chairwoman, Ms Yvonne Pim, addresses one of the unmet needs identified by the group, the lack of readily accessible information for women in trouble.

"If they have something that gives them the information about what services they can access and where to go, that gives them the hope and the possibility of moving beyond the cycle of violence and finding another kind of life for themselves," she said.

In common with other counties, however, Wexford still has some way to go before adequate services are available for women who suffer violence or abuse.

Other unmet needs identified by the network, which was set up on foot of the report of the National Task Force on Violence Against Women, include the lack of trained medical personnel to examine victims of rape and sexual abuse and a waiting list for free legal advice leading to delays of up to six months.

Enough is Enough will be launched in the Ferrycarrig Hotel in Wexford by the Fine Gael MEP, Ms Avril Doyle.
