Bomb scare on Ryanair charter flight

A Ryanair charter flight, FR 7055, from Faro in Portugal landed in Dublin at 10

A Ryanair charter flight, FR 7055, from Faro in Portugal landed in Dublin at 10.30 last night almost eight hours late, after being diverted to Santiago in northern Spain because of a bomb scare.

The Boeing 737-800, due in Dublin at 2.30 p.m., was diverted soon after taking off at 11.55 a.m., when the captain was told there was a bomb on board.

"The captain initiated standard procedure and diverted to the nearest airport," a spokeswoman for Ryanair confirmed. "The passengers disembarked normally and a full security review was carried out." No evidence of a bomb was found on board the aircraft, however, after a detailed search. Police and airline authorities were investigating the incident last night.
