A number of items, believed to be component parts for pipe bombs, have been seized during planned security searches of flats in north Belfast.
British army technical experts have been called to Ross House in the loyalist Mount Vernon area of the city to examine the parts.
The RUC have evacuated the flats in order to carry out follow-up searches of the area.
There have been more than 50 pipe bombs on Catholic families in Northern Ireland since the start of the year, with numerous attacks taking place in flashpoint areas of north Belfast.
