The INLA bombers who attacked a Co Armagh town on the eve of the Assembly election two months ago were filmed on video, the High Court in Belfast heard yesterday. A prosecution lawyer said that the recording showed a red Ford Escort following the vehicle which contained the bomb into Newtownhamilton on June 24th. After the car-bomb had been left outside the RUC station the driver got into the Escort and was driven away.
The lawyer said the back-up car had been identified as belonging to Mr Patrick Wall (32), of Carrickasticken Road, Forkhill, Co Armagh. He was arrested later and had been remanded in custody charged with causing the explosion.
When Mr Wall applied for bail yesterday his lawyer said he was adamant that his car had not been in Newtown hamilton on the day of the explosion. The lawyer said that the prosecution case amounted to video identification of a car, but there were no witnesses to say that Mr Wall had been in Newtownhamilton on that day.
Mr Justice Girvan said there was a prima facie case to answer and refused bail.
