Olympic silver medallist and former world 200m champion Ato Boldon believes the International Amateur Athletic Federation's (IAAF) proposal to change false start rules will lead to slower races.
The IAAF has suggested disqualifying athletes for one false start instead of two in any event under 400 metres.
The change will be tested at IAAF Grand Prix II events this year, prior to the World Championships in August.
"I don't think that you can (give) professional athletes such restrictions and still expect them to perform as they've performed during the years," the Trinidad and Tobago sprinter said today.
"When everybody starts running closer to 10-flat and not (current 100m world record) 9.79, I think (the IAAF is) going to second-guess their thinking.
"I'm fully prepared to see it implemented, but I think just as quickly it will be gone."
Boldon also believes the new rule could anger fans.
"First time I pay my money to go see a track meet and Mr. Maurice Greene decides to false start and gets kicked out, I'm not going to be a happy customer," he said.
Greene, Olympic and world 100m champion, set the world record of 9.79 seconds in Athens two years ago. AFP
