A goal in the first half from Jason McGuinness, followed by a strike by Robbie Doyle on 54 minutes and a Glen Crowe hat-trick, completed a comprehensive victory for the Dubliners, who now lie in sixth place in the Premier League standings.
For their part, Shels could only manage a nil-all draw with St Pats at Richmond Park.
They remain on top of the table, seven points ahead of Cork City.
