A second postmortem has been held on Olympic boxer Darren Sutherland (27) after his body was exhumed this morning.
His remains were taken to the mortuary at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan following the exhumation at St Finian’s Cemetery, in Navan.
The postmortem was carried out by an independent pathologist at the request of his family. They were granted a licence to carry out the exhumation by Meath County Council earlier this year.
The family is understood to be unhappy with the findings of the original postmortem, which took place in London last year. His remains were re-interred after the postmortem.
Sutherland, who was found dead at an apartment in the London suburb of Bromley last September, won a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. He lost to Britain's James DeGale who went on to take gold in the middleweight division.
Sutherland turned professional and won four fights prior to his death.
