Police are almost certain that the remains of a woman's body discovered in a bog near Omagh, Co Tyrone are not those of a victim of the Troubles.
The body is believed to have been in the bogland for up to 10 years and was discovered on Thursday near the Edenderry road by a local man who reported it to the RUC. Forensic scientists removed the remains. This is the third discovery of human remains in the North in the past fortnight. On February 5th, the bones of a woman were found by children at the base of a steep slope at Derriaghy, outside Lisburn. A week later, human remains were found near a stream in the Campsie area of Derry. Both bodies are believed to have lain there for several years.
In each case, the RUC have virtually ruled out any connection with people believed to have been kidnapped and killed by paramilitaries in the 25 years of the Troubles. No details about the identities of the remains have so far been released.
