Mexican authorities said today they found what could be the skeletal remains of Ms Brenda Searle, a British tourist who went missing in Quintana Roo state eight months ago.
The attorney general of nearby Yucatan state Mr Manuel Echeverria said: "Judging by her clothes and certain belongings we have determined that this is the missing tourist but laboratory studies are required before this can be confirmed."
Mr Echeverria said the remains - and belongings like Ms Searle's health card - were discovered after a tip from a captured criminal who was carrying her credit card and who claimed to have witnessed her murder by two unidentified men.
