The discovery of possible new evidence about the Bloody Sunday killings led to the withdrawal yesterday of a High Court action which was due to be heard tomorrow.
The application to take the case out of the list was made by the Belfast firm of solicitors Madden and Finucane, which is acting for a sister of one of the victims. No reason was given in court but afterwards solicitor Ms Angela Ritchie said they had received information "which may ultimately result in receipt by us of important new evidence".
The application for judicial review of the Widgery Tribunal's findings had been brought by Mrs Mary Doherty, whose brother, Gerard Donaghy (17), was among those killed.
