Independent Fianna Fβil leader Mr Harry Blaney TD will not contest next year's general election in Donegal North East.
Mr Blaney (73) formally stepped down at his party's selection convention in Letterkenny last night.
Mr Blaney's son, Niall, will be the organisation's candidate in the next election. If he succeeds, he will follow in the footsteps of his father, his uncle, Neil, and grandfather, Niall.
Mr Harry Blaney was a member of Donegal County Council for 43 years. He became the oldest ever first-time TD when elected to the Dβil in 1997, aged 69.
