London - The British Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair, and the Opposition leader, Mr William Hague, have condemned the adoption of twin girls on the Internet. Meanwhile, their natural mother admitted she lied so that the adoption could go ahead, reports Rachel Donnelly.

In the Commons, Mr Blair said the trade in babies was "absolutely deplorable" and said laws would be introduced to prevent further cases. The Conservative leader, Mr Hague, told MPs his party would support the government to strengthen laws against baby trading.

Social workers visited the north Wales home of Alan and Judith Kilshaw yesterday to assess the condition of the six-month-old twin girls. Earlier, the Kilshaws, who paid u£8,200 sterling for the twins, denied they knew the mother of the twins had lied during court proceedings in Arkansas last December, to enable the adoption to take place.
