Jailed Texas billionaire Sir Allen Stanford was admitted to hospital earlier this week after being injured during a fight with another inmate, a US Marshals Service spokesman said today.
Deputy US marshal Alfredo Perez said Mr Stanford was being treated after an altercation on Thursday at the private Joe Corley Detention Facility in Conroe about 40 miles north of Houston.
Mr Perez said the 59-year-old’s injuries aren’t life threatening but declined to discuss details of the altercation. He said the incident is under investigation.
Mr Stanford’s attorney Kent Schaffer said he hadn’t talked with his client but had been told the injuries aren’t serious.
Mr Stanford is charged with defauding investors of the now defunct Stanford Financial Group of more than $7 billion.
He is best known in the UK for his financial investments in world cricket.
