More than 10,000 runners are due to fill the streets of the capital tomorrow for the Dublin City Marathon. The road race, the largest ever in the event's 22 year history, has attracted athletes from all over the world to Dublin.
Competitors from over 50 countries made up more than half of last year’s 8,000 competitors and the marathon is estimated to be worth £10 million to the city's economy each year.
Competitors will set off from the Four Courts at 9am, five minutes after wheelchair competitors begin the race. There is also a race for entrants with cerebral palsy.
The finishing area is in Smithfield where each competitor will receive a finisher's commemorative plaque. Meanwhile, motorists who need to cross the city are being advised to use the East or West Link toll bridges.
Scores of other roads will be closed to traffic throughout the city and parking restrictions will be in force.
