THE HIGH Court has adjourned for one week an application for an order for the winding up of the holding company of Cork City Football Club.
The order is being sought by a former Cork City and former Repuplic of Ireland player Gareth Farrelly, Birkdale, Southport, England, who claims he is owed €36,570 by the club.
Mr Farrelly claims the club is insolvent and unable to pay its debts. Yesterday, Ms Justice Mary Laffoy agreed to adjourn the matter for a week.
Mr Farrelly, who played for Premier League clubs Everton, Bolton and Wigan Athletic, as well as Bohemians and Cork City in the Eircom League of Ireland, said it had been agreed the club would pay him €40,000 in two instalments before the end of August and September. The first instalment was not paid, he said.
In separate proceedings last August, an order seeking the winding up of the club brought by the Revenue Commissioners was struck out by the court following an 11th hour deal.
