Mr James Gogarty received £760,000 in benefits in 1990 but he believed the Murphy group owed him more, the tribunal was told. Mr Gogarty said he resented the fact that Mr Joseph Murphy jnr and his fellow directors were involving him in a conspiracy to defraud the Revenue. Mr Garrett Cooney SC said all payments were paid in 1990 and the only dispute was which of the JMSE group companies should provide the P60s. He said Mr Gogarty received £300,000 into the pension fund; £215,000 in commission from the ESB and £100,000 from a pension fund established in Jersey.
Mr Gogarty said it was put into a Bank of Ireland account in the Isle of Man and he declared it in the amnesty.
Mr Cooney said he also got five years' consultancy, totalling £117,500, and a new car taxed and insured at £34,000 to £36,000.
