Catholic children have walked to the Holy Cross Primary School in north Belfast today without incident, following the introduction earlier this week of increased police presence that protests.
Hundreds of members of the Police Service of Northern Ireland lined the children’s route as loyalist residents in the Ardoyne district continued their picket.
The stand-off is now in its eleventh week. The PSNI operation is costing up to £100,000 per day to mount.
The Holy Cross board of governors are due to meet representatives of the loyalist Glenbryn Residents group later this week to discuss reaching a resolution to the dispute.
