Trouble flared in north Belfast this evening as five RUC officers were injured in disturbances between rival factions.

North Queen Street and New Lodge was the centre of the trouble. Clashes then broke out on the nearby Limestone Road, Newington and Carlisle Circus areas.

The scene is now reported to be quiet. Last week fierce rioting in the Ardoyne area left dozens of police officers wounded and brought Secretary of State Dr John Reid to the brink of declaring the Ulster Defence Association's ceasefire finished.
