David Beckham scored a sensational stoppage time free kick to give England a 2-2 draw against Greece and clinch a place in next year's World Cup finals.
The England captain's 25-metre strike meant England finished top of group nine after Germany could only draw 0-0 at home to Finland.
Earlier Demis Nikolaidis's goal looked to have snatched a shock win for the Greeks after England substitute Teddy Sheringham's 68th-minute equaliser had cancelled out Angelos Charisteas's first-half goal for the visitors.
For most of the match England were a pale shadow of the side which had won all five of their previous World Cup qualifiers under Eriksson and beat Germany 5-1 in Munich.
But Beckham's trademark goal completed their transformation from bottom of the group a year ago to group winners since the Swede became their first foreign coach. - Reuters
