Up to 100 jobs could go at BBC Northern Ireland as part of the corporation's shake-up, it was revealed today.
The finance, personnel, marketing and administrative departments are likely to be most affected; it is unlikely that any radio or television journalists will be among the redundancies.
BBC NI controller Ms Anna Carragher could not put an figure on the job cuts but predicted it would be less than 100. "It is over three years. You have got to factor in retirements and voluntary redundancies," she said.
"I am not talking about 80 to 100 people walking out of this building." Ms Carragher said some of those who lose their present posts would be retrained.
Management in Belfast will begin work on implementation plans that will be presented to the BBC Board of Governors in February. BBC Northern Ireland employs 730 staff.
Employees affected by the proposed changes will be informed of their fate by the end of March.
