Viking warriors, Norman knights and soldiers from the American Civil War will display their skills at Wolfhound '99, a public military history festival, in Collins Barracks tomorrow. The Wild Geese Wargames Club is co-sponsoring the festival with the National Museum of Ireland. Mr Paul O'Connor said the day will commemorate Ireland's military history.
"We want to provide a forum that will draw together the skills and expertise of military historians, military modellers, historical war-gamers and living history societies, to engage the public imagination." Groups from Ireland, Wales, England and North America will enact dramatic battles. The event will feature specialist book stalls and toy soldier displays. The RTE broadcaster Myles Dungan will speak on the Irish at the Somme, and a historian, Mr Richard Doherty, will discuss Irish participation in the second World War.
The festival runs from noon to 5 p.m. tomorrow at the Riding School, Collins Barracks, Benburb Street, Dublin 7. Admission is free.
