Ireland's only festival of baroque music is taking place in Sligo this weekend. It is the sixth such annual festival to be held in the town, and will be hosted at the local Model Arts and Niland Gallery.
The organisers say they are exploring less familiar areas of 17th and 18th century music this year, and will focus on lesser-known baroque composers.
The music on offer will come from the court of Catherine the Great, from Latvia, as well as the music of English viols, "spiced up with early Italian stylus phantasticus".
One of the highlights of this year's festival is the appearance of Treata, who are making their Irish debut. A trio from Latvia, they will give a concert of music from Riga in Latvia, and from St Petersburg.
