TWO MEN who have allegedly vowed to kill each other when they meet again, appeared in custody before Galway District Court yesterday charged in connection with a bareknuckle fight which took place in the city centre last Wednesday afternoon.
A crowd of over 200 people gathered to watch the fight, the court hard.
The crowd formed a large circle at the top of Shop Street at 2.15pm on October 29th as two men fought with bare fists for over 15 minutes until they fell to the ground, where they continued to fight, before gardaí arrived to arrest them, the court was told.
The fight was filmed and posted on to the internet.
Martin Hynes (29), Ballinfoyle Park, Headford Road, Galway, and Christopher Butler (23), New Road, Galway, are both charged with breaching the peace and with committing an affray.
Insp Pat McHugh said gardaí intervened to stop the fight
Insp McHugh told the court that the pair vowed en route to the Garda station in separate vehicles that they would fight to the death the next time they met.
Judge Gerard Haughton remanded both accused in custody with consent to bail of €3,000 to appear before the court again on November 12th.
