The Bar Council yesterday welcomed the swift resolution of the dispute at the Flood tribunal following discussions between the parties.
"The matters involved were of extreme importance to all concerned and their determination essential to the continued running of the tribunal.
"Despite the seriousness of the issues, both sides managed to look past their own particular concerns and find a middle ground.
"We congratulate them for having brought about this settlement in the interest of the tribunal and the public.
"The Bar Council feels that events of the past few days clearly demonstrated that the tribunal and counsel involved should be allowed to get on with their work in a proper and expedient manner, in order to ascertain the facts under investigation.
"Unhelpful commentary has accompanied much of its work to date and has proved detrimental to that undertaking. "While it is essential that the public hear the facts of the matter, these must be presented in a fair manner to all concerned, in the public interest. The Bar Council hopes that this will be taken into consideration for the remainder of the tribunal."
