DEMONSTRATION:Bank of Ireland closed its branch on O'Connell Street, Dublin yesterday afternoon after the front lobby was occupied by a group of seven protesters.

The group were members of Occupy Dame Street, which had set up camp outside the Central Bank for five months until March last.

The group entered the bank at around 1.30pm and erected posters stating that they were protesting on behalf of the Irish people the “handover” of €1.175 billion to bondholders.

Gardaí arrived shortly after and the front doors of the bank were locked. A spokeswoman for the bank said it took the decision to close for the remainder of yesterday in order to protect staff and customers.
