A WOMAN was shot in the arm and leg in Ballyfermot, Dublin, last night after the car she was travelling in was rammed by a BMW.
The woman was in the passenger seat of a Volkswagen Polo on Ballyfermot Drive shortly after 10 p.m. when the collision occurred. After getting out of the car, a man in the BMW shot her twice.
The driver of the Volkswagen, who is believed to be her boyfriend, was unhurt and fled from the scene to his nearby home. Gardai said he was refusing to assist in inquiries into the shooting.
The woman, in her mid 20s and from the locality, was taken to St James's Hospital where her condition was described as stable. The BMW was found burned out shortly afterwards at the Seventh Lock Tavern, Killeen Road, Ballyfermot. It is not certain how many people were in the BMW, but reports said there were at least two men in the front, both of whom wore balaclavas.
A motive for the shooting has not yet been established.
