A man charged in connection with an arms find in Limerick was yesterday refused bail.
Mr Michael Scanlon (31), St Mary's Terrace, Askeaton, Co Limerick, is charged with possession of a Sterling sub-machinegun for unlawful purposes and an explosive device on June 3rd at Loughmore, Mungret, Co Limerick.
Det Insp Bob Noonan said it would be alleged that Mr Scanlon was found in possession of the items when gardaí searched a shed at the back of a house in Loughmore.
Det Insp Noonan also made reference to an ongoing feud in the city.
But a solicitor for Mr Scanlon, Mr John Devane, said his client was not part of any feud.
Describing Mr Scanlon as "a family man" with two young children, Mr Devane said his client would agree to any conditions imposed by the court if he was granted bail.
Judge Tom O'Donnell refused bail because of the seriousness of the charges and remanded Mr Scanlon in custody until June 26th.
Meanwhile, three other men charged in connection with the same arms seizure were also further remanded in custody yesterday.
Mr Richard Smith (58) and his son, Mr Sean Smith (30), both with an address at Loughmore, Mungret, are charged with having control of a sub-machinegun for an unlawful purpose and an explosive device.
Mr Declan Sheehy (36), St Mary's Park, Limerick, is charged with possession of a sub-machinegun for an unlawful purpose and an explosive device.
