A man who is charged with raping a 19 year old girl and who does not have the social skills to live away from home was granted bail yesterday. The man, who is on a FAS employment scheme and cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with raping the girl at Burmah Steps, Ringmeen, Cobh, Co Cork, after 1 a.m. on Wednesday.
His solicitor, Mr Ken Murray, told the District Court in Midleton the accused man lived with his mother in Cobh and "lacked the social skills to survive outside Cobh". His mother, who appeared in court, had borrowed £5,000 for his bail and was willing to have him continue to live with her while he waited for trial.
The case was adjourned to January 22nd in Cobh.
