Three Co Monaghan men, including a leading GAA footballer, who received prison sentences on charges of possessing angel dust at a special sitting of Monaghan District Court earlier this week, have been released from custody pending appeal.
Appeal recognisances were fixed by Judge William Earley in the case in which prison terms of three months were imposed on Gerry McCarville (40), a Gaelic footballer with an address at Tydavnet; Neville Reid (36), of Emyvale; and Peter Mackle (40), of Tyholland.
A fourth man, Kieran Sherry, of Alkill, Castleshane, had a month's imprisonment suspended and was fined £200 for possessing the prohibited substance.
