A Finglas man was given a chance to avoid prison because a judge felt his day old baby boy deserved to have his father.

A Finglas man was given a chance to avoid prison because a judge felt his day old baby boy deserved to have his father.

Edward Mooney (26), of Cappagh Avenue, Finglas, pleaded guilty to breaking into InterContinental Distributors, Finglas, twice during September and stealing six bicycles. He also admitted breaking into W. D. McCawley, Finglas, on October 24th, and stealing 11 toy post offices and a remote control car.

Solicitor Mr Dara Robinson said Mooney has just become a father for the second time the night before. He had an eight year addiction to heroin but had been detoxed in Mountjoy.

Judge William Early said because the baby had been born yesterday and a child deserved to have his father, he would suspend a nine month sentence for two years. But he also, remanded Mooney to December 16th for probation and drug reports, warning that if they were bad he was facing a long sentence.
