Gardaí in Co Longford are today investigating the attempted abduction of a nine-year-old girl.
At around 7 p.m. last night the girl was near her home on the Drumlish-Cloone Road when a dark-coloured van pulled up.
A man got out of the van and offered the girl a lift home. Se refused and he grabbed her by the left hand and took a knife out of his pocket.
Just then, a car pulled up behind the van. The caused the man attempting the abduction got back into the van and drive away.
