More than 2,000 households in Athlone town have been advised that their tap water is safe to use after tests on the supply came back negative.
Yesterday residents to the east of the town were advised not to use the water in their taps following the detection of what appeared to be sulphide.
However, the Town Council said this afternoon it is satisfied that the water mains is clear and safe for drinking.
Householders in the areas where the restrictions operated are being advised to let the water run for a couple of minutes before using it.
