At least 20 persons were killed and 30 more hurt today when a number of old buildings collapsed in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, state television reported.
Some 40 others were feared to be still under the rubble and rescue work was under way, the television said.
The official SANA news agency, which earlier gave a toll of eight dead and 14 injured, quoted Aleppo governor Mr Osama Uday as blaming the collapse on a landslide.
The buildings had been constructed over ancient caves, he said.
