A priest facing three charges of indecently assaulting a female over 10 years ago appeared before Drogheda Dist rict Court yesterday. The charges relate to dates unknown between the July 31st, 1981 and August 3rd, 1982.
State solicitor, Mr Gerald Daly, said a book of evidence has been served and he was instructed by the Director of Public Prosecutions to seek depositions from the alleged victim. Judge Peter Smithwick adjourned the matter until September 16th.
He agreed to a request from the accused man's solicitor for reporting restrictions to be imposed. Judge Smithwick agreed to this in the interests of the fairness of the trial. The priest was remanded on continuing bail.
