Dublin airport is to remain closed until at least noon tomorrow due to increased volcanic activity at Iceland’s Eyjafjallajökull volcano.
Donegal, Sligo, Galway and Ireland West (Knock) airports were closed earlier today after the plume of ash cloud from the volcano re-entered Irish airspace, the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) said.
Dublin airport closed at 7.00pm
Donegal will remain shut until at least noon tomorrow, while Sligo and Knock will reopen at 9.00am. Services at Galway and Waterford airports will resume at 6.00am.
Cork, Kerry and Shannon airports remain open until further notice.
North Atlantic overflights through Irish-controlled airspace remain unaffected.
A number of Aer Lingus, Ryanair, Aer Arann, Flybe and American Airlines flights into and out of Irish airports were cancelled today.
Passengers planning to travel by air over the coming days have been advised to regularly check airline websites and the IAA website in advance of going to the airport.
A further update is expected at 9.30am.
All airports in the North were closed today on direction of Britain's National Air Traffic Service.
A no-fly zone was imposed over parts of Scotland and England between 1pm and 7pm. Manchester, Liverpool, Doncaster, Carlisle, Humberside and East Midlands airports fall within the no-fly zone.
