The Arts Council has offered funding awards to 91 artists and grants to 500 arts organisations totalling over €39 million, it was confirmed today.
Forty artists have been commissioned under the first round of the council’s Commission Scheme, including visual artist Dorothy Cross, jazz musician Ronan Guilfoyle, writers Gerard Stembridge and Irma Grothuis, composer Elaine Agnew and street theatre practitioners Bui Bolg. A total of €250,000 has been allocated to this scheme.
Fifty one artist-led projects will be given development funding of €558,800. Film-maker Joe Comerford, Quare Hawks theatre company in Monaghan, Axis - Ballymun’s Arts and Community Resource Centre and the Coombe Women’s Hospital have all been allocated funding for projects.
Multi-annual funding of €15.7 million has been confirmed for 61 companies, and 400 others have been offered one-year grants totaling €22.5 million for 2002.
Full details of those receiving grants will be published at the end of the month, once offers have been accepted. Grant decisions in relation to residual funding proposals from arts organisations will be made early in February.
