Brazilian club Palmeiras have confirmed that Arsenal have made an offer for their World Cup winning goalkeeper Marcos.

But the recently relegated Brazilian outfit say no transfer deal has been agreed for the 29-year-old, contrary to media reports in the country.

Marcos was said to be jetting out to London tonight to finalise a £2.4 million move to Highbury.

Marcos was praised for his performances for the Brazilian side at the World Cup.

Marcos started his professional career in 1993 at the Sao Paulo-based club, gaining a first team spot in 1999 - the year the club won the Libertadores Cup and were runners-up in both the State Championship and the Mercosur Cup.

In 2000 he lifted the Rio-Sao Cup and also picked up a runners-up medal in the Libertadores Cup. As national goalkeeper he won the 1999 Copa America and was a runner-up in the 1999 Confederations Cup.
